Clinical Problem: Cancer Biopsy
نویسنده
چکیده
A letter to the editor entitled “Cancer Biopsy in Ancient Persian Medicine: Do or Not to Do!” was published in Iran J Public Health (1). I would like to focus attention on authors’ suggestion for using non-invasive methods such as laboratory parameters and biomarkers, for tumor detection. Advancements in oncology resulted in development of different protocols for cancer treatment. Accordingly, accurate diagnosis base on pathologic specimen is very important particularly to select a suitable treatment protocol and therefore, doing tumor biopsy is inevitable. Although concern for tumor seeding during biopsy still exists but several studies, for instance (2-4) have found that, its likelihood is very low. Furthermore, advantages of correct cancer diagnosis is would usually weigh more than potential risks of biopsy (3, 4). References

Imaging Cellular Proliferation in Prostate Cancer with Positron Emission Tomography
Prostate cancer remains a major public health problem worldwide. Imaging plays an important role in the assessment of disease at all its clinical phases, including staging, restaging after definitive therapy, evaluation of therapy response, and prognostication. Positron emission tomography with a number of biologically targeted radiotracers has been demonstrated to have potential diagnostic and...
متن کاملInter-observer Variability in Histomorphological Evaluation of Non-neoplastic Liver Biopsy Tissue and Impact of Clinical Information on Final Diagnosis in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Affiliated Hospitals
Background & Objective: Liver biopsy is the main method for grading and staging liver disorders, but the effects of clinical information and optimal biopsy specimen size on interpretation remain contentious. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of clinical information and quality of liver specimen on inter-observer agreement for liver disease. Methods:<...
متن کاملLiquid Biopsy as a Minimally Invasive Source of Thyroid Cancer Genetic and Epigenetic Alterations
In the blood of cancer patients, some nucleic acid fragments and tumor cells can be found that make it possible to trace tumor changes through a simple blood test called “liquid biopsy”. The main components of liquid biopsy are fragments of DNA and RNA shed by tumors into the bloodstream and circulate freely( ctDNAs and ctRNAs). tumor cells which are shed into the blood (circulating tumor cells...
متن کاملPrediction Axillary Lymph Node Involvement Status on Breast Cancer Data
Introduction: one of the foremost usual methods for evaluating breast cancer is the removal of axillary lymph nodes (ALN) which include complications such as edema, limited hand movements, and lymph accumulation. Although studies have shown that the sentinel gland condition represents the axillary nodules context in the mammary gland, the efficacy, and safety of the guard node biopsy need to be...
متن کاملOptimized Needle Biopsy Strategies for Prostate Cancer Detection
Clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer is most often done by transrectal ultrasound-guided needle biopsy. Because of the low resolution of ultrasound, however, the urologist cannot usually distinguish between cancerous and healthy tissue. Therefore, most biopsies follow standard procedures (known as “protocols”) based on long-term physician experience. Recent studies indicate that these protocol...
